10-11 October, New Delhi

The DAAD Regional Office in New Delhi, in collaboration with the Association of Indian Universities, hosted the fourth iHED (International Higher Education Dialogue) Conference “Pathways to internationalisation between Europe and India, held in person for the first time. The event gathered over 100 representatives from Indian and German university international offices to discuss key topics in internationalization, including cooperation success measurement, recruitment models, transnational projects, and the role of internationalization in enhancing student employability. The conference featured speed workshops, parallel sessions, and presentations focusing on showcasing good practices in collaboration with Germany and Europe.

Now the largest platform for exchange among international offices in India, the iHED Conference has, over the past four years, built a strong network for collaboration between Indian and German higher education institutions.

The DAAD Regional Office in New Delhi organized an iHED Workshop on “Internationalisation at Indian Higher Education Institutions – Structures and Services” for northeastern India. Held at Assam Don Bosco University, Guwahati, 15 higher education institutions from the region discussed building internationalisation structures and collaborating with Germany. Despite fewer international connections, the region offers strong cooperation potential with Germany with institutions like IIM Shillong, Don Bosco University, and IIT Dhanbad.

This interactive workshop, held on 14th-15th October, was designed for heads and representatives of international offices from northeastern India and neighbouring states. Around 20 participants from 15 institutions across Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, Odisha, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Bihar, and Chhattisgarh took part in the workshop creating a platform for knowledge-sharing.

German experts Ms. Juliane Terpe from the University of Applied Sciences Dresden and Ms. Katharina Pingel from the University of Leipzig led the sessions, offering insights into internationalisation good practices and models that have worked effectively in German universities.

Participants discussed communication strategies for international offices, international partnerships, and project management. The workshop enabled them to assess their current internationalisation practices, identify gaps, and develop strategies to enhance global engagement.
