Scientists from various institutions of the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) started receiving DAAD scholarships that enabled them to receive 4 months of German leaning and one year of research stay in Germany. This was to be a model for many DAAD scholarships in future.
This developed into the CSIR WAP – or CSIR Scientist Exchange Programme later.
Language + Research: Always a useful combination!
DAAD funded German language courses in Germany and for some years in India where scholarship holders learned German before they started with their research.
This has been a special feature of the majority of DAAD scholarships! A number of DAAD alumni (and their spouses – they too were offered this possibility) have benefitted fro this possibility and appreciated it.
