1990-1999

This decade saw a number of new scholarship programmes. The marketing initiative that then started was to make India the home country to the largest number of foreign students in Germany.

Projektbezogene PersonalPartnerschaften  (PPP) with the DST, Govt. of India

The DAAD and the Department of Science & Technology intensified their cooperation in the year 1998 by setting up an Indo-German “Project based personal exchange programme” primarily in the field of Engineering and Natural Science.

The Programme fosters academic collaboration in engineering and natural sciences, supporting joint research projects by funding mobility and collaborative activities to strengthen bilateral cooperation between India and Germany. Since 1998, this joint cooperation programme has supported more than 450 projects.

Wissenschaftleraustauschprogram (WAP)

To strengthen collaboration between Indian IITs and German universities and research institutions, an MoU was signed with the 5 IITs in 1997 to facilitate faculty exchange between the two countries. This agreement was renewed in 2023, now encompassing all IITs in India, reaffirming the commitment to fostering academic and research partnerships.

You can easily buy prepaid cards for your cell phone (or “Handy” as it is called there) from phone shops as well as supermarkets and drug stores. There are many providers in Germany: do check out what kind of deals they are offering before investing, at times handsets come free with certain connections.
